We know the Fall Fest is a well-loved activity, but due to a lack of volunteers, it will not be held this Friday as originally scheduled.
We have made the decision to postpone it indefinitely. We would love to host a family event like Fall Fest for our OHES community this year – if you are interested in helping in any way (big or small) please let one of the PTA board members know.
It’s time to tell your story with PTA Reflections, a National PTA program that encourages students to express themselves through original works of art. Judging is organized through the Orange Hunt PTA and every participating student is recognized at an awards reception in January.
Reflect on this year’s theme “What is Your Story?” to create an individual work of art in one or more of these six categories: visual art, photography, music composition, literature, film production, or dance choreography. Use your summer experiences or your hopes for the new school year as inspiration for your artwork. This program is FREE and open to students of all grade levels and abilities and includes a category for special needs students as well.
A drop box for entries is available in the school office. We will be accepting entries through Friday, October 28th.
Please visit http://www.vapta.org/members-only/student-programs/reflections for details on how to participate.
If you’d like the chance to win $100, it’s also time to begin thinking about a suggested theme for the 2018-2019 Reflections program. Contact Jennifer Augusti at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Since our armchair fundraiser was a big success last year, we are asking you again to simply make a donation to support our PTA. There is no selling door-to-door or hitting up family, friends or co-workers to purchase items. Our GOAL is to raise $20,000 by October 14, 2016! If each family donates between $50.00 and $75.00 we will reach our goal! Please Donate online at http://register.orangehuntpta.org/
*** And remember – all donations are tax-deductible. ***
Hi Orange Hunt Families!
We are Girl Scout Troop 2090 and we are volunteering as chair “group” for the PTA Box Top position. We want to help raise money for Orange Hunt activities, fun programs, and materials for our wonderful students and teachers.
How can you help too? Cut Box Tops from participating packaging, check expiration date, put them in a baggie with teacher’s name, and send to school no later than October 21st.
Our goal is to collect $3000 in box tops (only 35 per student!). There is a pizza party for the 3 classes with the most Box Tops collected!
Then, keep saving them for another contest in the Spring!

Parents, the online spirit wear store is OPEN. This site will remain open until October 9th and it will not reopen again this year. This will be your only chance to order long sleeve tshirts, flannel pants, and hooded sweatshirts. T-shirts will still be offered at school events in limited sizes until supplies run out. Please be aware that all online items are offered in youth and adult sizes. Make sure you are selecting the correct type when placing your order because there are absolutely no refunds under any circumstances. Once the site closes on October 9th, the orders will take 2-3 weeks to process. Items will be picked up from the store and delivered to teacher’s mailboxes at school. If you have any questions, please contact the spirit wear coordinator, Keli Jacewitz, email@example.com. Online Orders: http://store.cci-screenprinting.com/category_s/121.htm

In the Nov. 8 General Election, voters in Fairfax County will be asked to vote yes or no on a meals tax question. The question asks voters to allow the county Board of Supervisors to impose a 4 percent meals tax on certain prepared foods. If the meals tax is approved, 70 percent of the net tax revenues would be dedicated to Fairfax County Public Schools. Want to learn more? The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a forum about it on Thursday, September 29 at 7:30 pm in the Luther Jackson Middle School auditorium. For more information about the forum, see flyer or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Girls on the Run (GOTR) is an afterschool program designed for 3rd-6th grade girls. Despite the name, your daughter does not need to be a runner to participate! The program is designed to encourage girls to use running/physical activity as a means of empowerment and motivation. GOTR is so much more than a running program; it is a youth development program which helps empower girls. Practices include a curriculum-based discussion on topics designed to boost self-esteem as well as games to encourage physical activity. We start from the absolute basics of walking/running and work our way up to a 5K run by the end of the season. GOTR has a Fall and Spring season, so there are two 5Ks per year in November and May. We are starting our Fall season soon. Fall registration opens 8/22/16 and ends on 9/19/16. The Fall Season will run from 9/27-12/8/2016. We practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the back field from 3:40 – 4:40 pm. Our 5K weekend is scheduled for November19th & 20th (we will know the actual 5K date in the coming weeks). The cost is $175 per girl. New this year is a military discount of $150.
